There were many Fire, Police and EMS agencies from all over the region represented at the Toyota Center to see Pasadena Volunteer Firefighters win the tug of war championship on ice. Many PVFD Firefighters, spouses and their children turned out to cheer the team on as well. The Houston Aeros played the Lake Erie Monsters and hosted the championship during the first intermission.
The PVFD composite team was anchored by the PVFD Inter-Departmental tug of war Champions, Station 8's Steve Whitman, Chris Green, Chris Ebdon, George Higgins, and Jay Farrell (Station 8's Firefighter of the year). They made short order of taking out their competition to get to the finals, where they beat the Pasadena Police Department twice in a row to take the best 2 out of 3.
Firefighter Chris Ebdon stated, "We took out Houston Police SWAT first, but it was really cool to beat Pasadena Police in the finals."
The PVFD brought home a great trophy and all agreed that the $200.00 championship prize was to be donated to the 100 Club of Houston. The 100 Club has a half century of support for families of law enforcement and Firefighters killed in the line of duty in not only Harris County, but Austin, Brazoria, Brazos, Burleson, Chambers, Colorado, Fayette, Fort Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Liberty, Madison, Montgomery, San Jacinto, Walker, Waller, and Washington counties as well.
